FIJI’S status among rugby’s top nations has been further highlighted following the unveiling of the inaugural Nations Championship Trophy, with the Flying Fijians set to compete in a new global tournament starting next month.
The trophy, which stands 67 centimetres tall and weighs 15 kilograms, is plated in silver and gold. It will be awarded to the first Nations Championship winner at the finals weekend in London later this year.
The competition will feature 12 of the world’s leading rugby nations, including Fiji alongside Southern Hemisphere heavyweights New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Argentina, as well as Japan and top European sides from the Northern Hemisphere: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales.
For Fiji, participation in the tournament marks another important step in its rugby development, giving the national side regular opportunities to test itself against top-tier opposition from both hemispheres.
The competition will be played across the traditional July and November international windows.
Every match will count toward overall standings, with teams aiming to secure a place in the finals weekend.
The trophy features a gold globe at its center, while its handles represent the rivalry between northern and southern hemisphere rugby nations.
