REGINALD Prakash of Police may have fallen short in the ring during his bout against Emosi Vucago of Army in the 60 – 63.5kg category, but his performance captivated audiences who witnessed the contest in day two of the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Boxing Competition at the LICI Courts in Laucala Bay, Suva yesterday.

The win for the bout was awarded to Vucago, who won by a split decision made in his favour, after three rounds of what had been an intense fight from the start.

As the fight progressed with Prakash initially displaying a dominant hand, Vucago gained momentum and capitalized on weaknesses he found in his challenger’s stance, thus resulting in the split decision delivered by judges following the bout.

Meanwhile, this was Prakash’s second year competing in the Sukuna Bowl and although he remarked his companions in blue had fielded a formidable team, he credited the Army boxers for bringing the heat as well.

“We have prepared well, same as our opponents, but as we know, they’ve been fighting wholly around,” he said.

“We took two months to prepare, yet we are giving them a tough competition.

As for his winning opponent, Vucago humbly acknowledged his victory in the fierce contest and thanked God immensely for his win and for being a pillar of strength in his preparation with fellow Army boxers.

“Before we trained, we would always put God first and during our training, we would make sacrifices and continued to push ourselves through it all,” Vucago expressed.
