FIJI Airways national men’s sevens rugby coach Gareth Baber has picked Eroni Sau as his rookie of the year describing him as big, powerful and elusive.
“Best of luck in France,” Baber said.
Reflecting on the season that was, the Welsh man said there was a rise in the quality of performances but he was happy with how his team had adapted.
Fiji won one bronze and five gold medals in the 10 leg HSBC World Sevens Series to finish second behind South Africa.
But Baber’s best memory of the series would be the devotion or lotu at the end of a tournament.
“…It will be our lotu following any tournament, win or lose. For any rugby player, this is the most “real” of times and to be able to share that with such a good group of people is somewhat humbling,” Baber said.
His best find of the season though would be analyst Chris Davies.
“He has a great work ethic and has worked to ensure that the players are provided feedback and learnings from all of our games and training sessions.
“He has a good personality and has formed strong bonds with the players.”
