FLYING Fijians head coach John McKee views ball handling as something they needed to look at following last week’s game against Italy at the ANZ Stadium, Laucala Bay, Suva.
He said there were other factors that contributed to the handling errors during the game.
“It was tough out there in humid conditions and the ball was a bit slippery,” he said.
“It’s really hard that their (Italy) line speed was coming hard at our line and it is something that we need to really look at.
“This week week we will be playing in the same conditions against Scotland.
“I think there were a few times last week when maybe there were a few sloppy ball carrying in contact.”
He said they would be placing a lot of attention on ball retention when carrying into contact.
This is to keep possession and deny a repeat of last weekend’s dominance in the scrums and forward play by Italy. Scotland is likely to play in a similar fashion.
“It is better to retain possession and build our pressure, rather than letting it all out on one play.”
McKee said they learned a lot from Italy’s game compared with the Wallabies.
Last week the Vodafone Flying Fijians beat Italy 22-19 while Scotland defeated Australia 24-19.
Scotland is ranked fourth in the World Rugby standing after beating Australia.
