Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa has changed a few key special administrator positions because of differing views between former and current administrators.
Speaking at the recent Municipal Council’s Chief Executive Officer and Special Administrators Forum in Sigatoka, he said special administrators and their chairperson’s must work towards a common goal.
“One of the things that I noticed is that there must be consensus among the people that we work with,” said Mr Nalumisa.
“There are some councils that are facing difficulties in ensuring there is consensus and there is an agreement with the way you make decisions.
“I have also changed the chairmanship of some councils because we need to ensure that we as a team, as a ministry or a municipal council, must ensure that we work towards a common goal and objective.
“It should not be like some special administrators who have a set of goals while another group has other ideas.
“We must have a common idea in the way we make our decisions.”
Mr Nalumisa said the end result must be that residents’ needs and demands were catered to.
“When we do that, we are not only doing a great service to our municipal councils, but we are also doing a great service to the people that we serve.
“When you give the best service, we have to ensure that we are transparent with the way we manage things and the way we give these services to our people.
“Governance is one of the key areas in delivering those services to the people that we serve.
“There is transparency and accountability.
“That is very important.”
