PORN links have been a major concern to most Facebook users with a wrong click sending private messages with pornographic content to multiple contacts.
Internet users have been encouraged to be responsible media users and take more proactive measures to avoid the circulation of porn pictures and videos.
These were the sentiments of Fiji Media Watch program officer Mereoni Lewesi.
Ms Lewesi said porn links on Facebook were an ongoing issue which had prompted many to lodge queries and complaints.
To address this, she said, their organisation had been providing media education, awareness and campaigns on the use of social media.
Apart from conducting awareness programs, the organisation had also been distributing media guides which provide steps and guidelines on the use of social media.
“We advise media users or media consumers to be wiser on the use of media, to try and understand the good and the bad of media, the bad influences of social media and its effects,” Ms Lewesi said.
“It’s totally up to the individuals and how strict they are to be following these guides.”
“The media guide is there for you to embrace yourself in the things that you need.”
She said they also encouraged social media users and Facebook users to be aware of links shared on Facebook.
“Know when to use it, when and where,” Ms Lewesi said.
