A TEAM of senior CID investigators has completed its initial analysis of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, with police now preparing for a full-scale investigation.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said findings had been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office, and a dedicated team would handle the next phase.

“Once further guidance is received, I have given specific instructions for the team to solely focus on this investigation as it is of national interest,” Mr Tudravu said.

He said the team would report through the Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime and stressed the independence of the process amid public speculation.

“I want to stress the independence of the investigation process, as a lot has been said by certain individuals about the alleged findings of the inquiry, that some feel would prejudice the investigations,” he said.

Mr Tudravu said the investigation would begin with information gathering before interviews are conducted with persons of interest.

Asked whether leaked COI documents on social media had affected the probe, Mr Tudravu said: “We are not affected in any way.”

“We will not be using that (COI report) for investigation, as stipulated under the law of the Commission of Inquiry.”

He declined to comment further, saying: “We have outlined an investigation, and I cannot comment on how they are.”
