POLICE are searching for a Chinese national who went missing while working at a black sand mining operation at the Ba River delta.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said a report was lodged last Wednesday at 6pm of a missing person at the Ba River mouth.
“The 35-year-old man was working on a ship when he went missing,” she said.
“A search team was formed led by station officer Ba and to date, the search has turned out negative.”
According to a source within the organisation involved in the black sand mining operation, a Chinese national who was working on a boat at the river mouth allegedly fell into the water at about 2pm on October 3.
A search was launched when he failed to resurface and the search intensified when police and a helicopter arrived at the river mouth.
The search for the Chinese contractor continued yesterday.
