Police are investigating an alleged case of sacrilege at the Gangamma Temple in Wairuku, Rakiraki.
The front grilled door to the temple was forced opened.
The break-in was discovered by the temple priest this morning.
Worship idols and other temple property have been scattered inside the temple.
While no large amount of money was kept inside the temple, some coins were taken.
This is the third break-in at the temple in nine years. Police are at the temple to investigate.
A break-in was also reported at a house located near the temple.
