A man has been taken into police custody after allegedly threatening to shoot people between Lautoka and Ba if police did not release 2.6 tonnes of cocaine seized earlier this month in Vatia, Tavua.
Police spokesman Wame Bautolu confirmed the suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon and is currently in custody.
The arrest follows a video that circulated widely on social media, in which the man issued a threat directed at the Fiji Police Force, demanding the release of the seized drugs and claiming ownership of the cocaine.
Police said the suspect will be investigated for alleged intimidation.
Mr Bautolu said investigations are continuing, and police are treating the matter seriously due to the nature of the threat and the public concern it generated.
The 2.6 tonnes of cocaine were seized during a police operation in Tavua earlier this month, in what authorities have described as one of the country’s largest drug seizures.
