The Coalition Government has allocated more than $443 million to Fiji’s police, military and corrections services in the 2026-2027 National Budget, with a strong focus on law enforcement, border security and combating transnational crime.

Presenting the Budget in Parliament, Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel said maintaining public safety remained one of Government’s highest priorities.

“Mr Speaker Sir, the Fiji Police Force is critical to maintain law and order and safety of all Fijians.”

The Fiji Police Force has been allocated $226.5 million in the new Budget.

Mr Immanuel said the first phase of recruiting 538 additional police officers had been completed during the 2025-2026 financial year, increasing the size of the force to more than 5,000 officers.

“This added strength should now provide the additional capability to maintain law and order,” he said.

The Finance Minister said Government remained committed to recruiting another 538 officers once the country’s fiscal position improved.

In the meantime, the Police Force will focus on filling approximately 400 existing vacant positions to further strengthen frontline policing capacity.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has been allocated $152.6 million for the coming financial year.

Mr Immanuel said a major priority would be strengthening Fiji’s capacity to combat transnational crime, particularly through the military’s role in the Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force.

He said additional funding would support enhanced maritime surveillance, border protection and closer inter-agency coordination.

The Fiji Corrections Service will receive $64.7 million, with the increased allocation supporting implementation of the final phase of the Job Evaluation Exercise completed during the 2024-2025 financial year.

The funding will also support the transition to the new “Pay by Rank” salary structure.

Mr Immanuel also announced $2.2 million for Phase Three of the Nasinu Public Cemetery Upgrade, covering preliminary works, earthworks, drainage and stormwater systems, road formation and associated infrastructure.
