Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has described the recent major drug interception as a clear example of the importance of cooperation and real-time intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies.
Mr Tudravu said the success of the operation was the result of close coordination between the Fiji Police Force and regional and international partners.
“The successful operation is a testament to cooperation efforts through the flow of real-time intelligence among law enforcement stakeholders,” he said.
He acknowledged that such operations carry significant risks for officers on the ground.
“The successful operation came with its inherent risks, and I commend all involved for their determination in pursuing the targets, resulting in the disruption of transnational criminal activity in the region,” Mr Tudravu said.
The Police Commissioner also appealed to the public for continued support, noting that disrupting organised drug networks often requires lengthy and complex investigations.
“Many have viewed efforts of disrupting the illicit drug trade as ineffective, not realising the work that goes on behind the scenes and the risks involved,” he said.
“The success of this cross-border operation underscores the commitment by the Fiji Police Force and regional partners in disrupting criminal networks that threaten the security of our country and region.”
Mr Tudravu stressed that police are actively pursuing intelligence leads and will continue to target those involved in organised crime.
“We are not sitting back and doing nothing,” he said.
“We are actively pursuing intelligence received and verifying the information. We will uncover the networks and those involved, and I am calling for public support towards policing efforts.”
He said community cooperation remains vital in helping police protect Fiji from the growing threat posed by transnational criminal activity.
