THE Special Olympics Fiji team to the recent Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi received a special welcome at Parliament in Suva on Monday.

And receiving the team before they met the parliamentarians was the head of the nation, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The PM congratulated the athletes on their 17 medals haul at the games.

“It is impossible not to be inspired by the optimism and achievement of young people who are living with disabilities, whether physically or mentally,” Bainimarama said.

Special Olympics Fiji returned with seven gold, four silver and six bronze medals. It was also the first time Fiji won a bronze medal in a team sport which was five-a-side Futsal.

The PM also hosted the athletes to lunch at McDonald’s Restaurant in Suva.
