Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be taking action against the five National Federation Party (NFP) Cabinet ministers who voted against the impending salary increase for parliamentarians.
Speaking to the media in Ba yesterday, Mr Rabuka answered “yes” when asked whether the NFP’s decision affected the Coalition.
When asked to elaborate on the action he would take against NFP, Mr Rabuka declined to elaborate.
“No, I will do that and you will see when it happens,” he said.
Mr Rabuka added that the decision could be put aside while workers were trying to get better minimum wages.
“It can be done later.
“This thing has not been effected.
“We have the budget coming up.
“The minimum wage is still current and the minister who voted against or abstained is the minister responsible for that. Maybe he has not been able to finalise the issues from the workers.”
Attempts to get NFP leader Prof Biman Prasad to comment on the issue yesterday proved futile.
However, earlier, Prof Prasad said their support for the Coalition and the PM remained strong.
“(The) decision that we made in Parliament is a matter of principle and the PM allowed for conscience voting,” said Mr Prasad.
“We also said that does not have any implication on the Coalition and our support to the Prime Minister.
“I said that in Parliament and I repeat that here, that our decision to vote against the report has absolutely no impact on our partnership in the Coalition and our support to the honourable Prime Minister.”
