Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says a foreign policy paper will be developed to capture Fiji’s foreign relationships on the “non-political side of governance”.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Mr Rabuka said there has never been a foreign policy paper developed by Government.

“We have never had a foreign policy paper,” said Mr Rabuka.

“We have developed our own and it has been developed by Government.

“This one will involve the nonpolitical side of governance.

“It will involve expertise who will also be assisted by officials from friendly economies that will support us financially and in the research.

“They will be putting together the experiences of the friendly economies that we interact with.”

Mr Rabuka said Fiji’s geo-political influences will also be addressed under the new foreign policy paper.

“That is very important because it will incorporate our own view of the geo-political influences that we will have to interact with or live with and how we may be able to have our input into their geo strategic thinking about Fiji’s concerns and Fiji’s own relationship with those that are covered in that geo-political document.”

When questioned if the document will include our relationship with countries like Israel, Mr Rabuka said “that will come up. Some of us harmonise in our thinking there, some of us differ. It will surely be dealt with”.
