The purpose of the Blue Pacific Big Ocean States (BPBOS) Labour Platform is to raise the visibility and voice of the Pacific to the International Labour Conference and the Asia Pacific Group Platform, says Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh.

Mr Singh said the BPBOS was key to recognising and aligning the Pacific region under a single appellation on labour and employment issues, and International Labour Organization (ILO) issues.

“The emphasis by the labour ministers at the last Pacific Tripartite High-Level Forum in 2019 to the ILO on the importance of having a common voice in the Pacific at the international arena where issues that affect the Pacific are to be heard, in particular decent work, labour and employment issues and climate change,” Mr Singh said.

“To advance the work of the BPBOS labour platform, a two-day meeting was held on August 26 to August 27 in New Zealand to review the draft Terms of Reference (TOR) for the BPBOS labours minister’s platform.

“The meeting was a success, and it saw the completion of the review of the draft TOR.”
