ABOUT 50 residents of Vadraiyawasewa Settlement in Drasa, Lautoka, attended a breast cancer awareness campaign organised by Soroptimist International (SI) Lautoka Club last Saturday.
The Pinktober program brought together children, adults and senior citizens to raise awareness of breast cancer and promote personal health and wellbeing.
SI Lautoka president Sarita Kumar said the campaign aimed to ensure communities had access to important health information and support.
She acknowledged representatives from Medical Services Pacific (MSP) for sharing information about the organisation’s services and educating residents on recognising possible signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
Ms Kumar said the session also addressed wider health and social issues affecting individuals and families.
“Three cancer survivors shared their personal experiences, highlighting the challenges of living with cancer and the importance of early detection and seeking medical advice,” she said.
“Their stories encouraged residents to prioritise their health and seek appropriate medical care and screening.”
Ms Kumar said the club was committed to extending its awareness programs to underserved communities and working with relevant organisations to improve access to health information and services.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to health information, awareness and support, regardless of where they live.”
She said SI Lautoka planned to organise more awareness campaigns and explore partnerships to facilitate screening opportunities in rural and interior communities.
