Vodafone Fiji’s M-PAiSA QR pay has recorded a phenomenal 2000 per cent growth in the past 12 months compared with a year ago.
According to a statement from the company the inward remittances from around the world directly into M-PAiSA accounted for approximately 26 per cent of all personal remittances into the country and in July recorded its highest single month inward remittances of $15.35 million.
“M-PAiSA is driving the cashless revolution in the country because it offers greater convenience, safer payment options and much less health risk during this pandemic for the users as well as businesses,” said head of Vodafone eCommerce and Corporate Affairs, Shailendra Prasad.
The mobile network company stated the M-PAiSA digital payment platform processes more than $100m in transactions every month.
Individuals were able to send money to anyone in Fiji at zero fee through the M-PAiSA mobile wallet.
They could also receive money from families abroad securely and within seconds, purchase top-up and data for their mobile phone, top-up their eTransport cards and make cashless payment over the counter or remotely to over 900 businesses outlets Fiji wide according to Vodafone.
The number of businesses adopting M-PAiSA was stated to also have grown from 40 businesses to 330 businesses in just one year, a 725 per cent increase.
Fiji Eats, an online food ordering and delivery platform, operating out of Nadi was one of Vodafone’s customers to have already adopted the M-PAiSA contactless payment.
Fiji Eats director Shaneel Chandra, said their partnership with Vodafone M-PAiSA had greatly supported them in becoming Fiji’s premier online food ordering and delivery service.
The M-PAiSA contactless and remote payment method was stated to allow customers to pay for their food faster, more conveniently and securely than ever before.
Users could simply download the Fiji Eats application, choose the restaurant of their choice, the food they want, and authorize a secure payment using their secure PIN on the M-PAiSA mobile app.
The payments are stated to be received by Fiji Eats in real time and orders placed with the respective restaurant and delivered within 30 to 45 minutes.
Vodafone Fiji stated with more than $100m processed through M-PAiSA and growing every month, it was a significant player in Fiji’s financial system.
The company stated this was now a payment option which was a business imperative to monetize every sale which came their way and specially for the more tech savvy and “on the go” consumer.
