The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre will march through Suva city next Saturday for the annual “Reclaim The Night” event, giving women a voice to reclaim the streets and public spaces through this safe empowering .
The march follows the permit granted by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Roads Authority with the following conditions: maximum number of people shall not exceed 800 people, political ideologies should not be “advocated”, no banners, or slogans, regarding “Palestine, Israel, Kanaky, and West Papua be included in the march and gathering and people are to abstain from making remarks that “can be defamatory, inciting, or provoking”.
FWCC, in a statement said this event started in 1987 with just 30 people but has grown over the years and now an essential part of building individual and community support to address the elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination against women, girls and children.
“People come together and show their opposition towards violence against women, girls and children,” FWCC said.
The march will start from the Suva Flea Market at 7pm on 8th March 2025, coinciding with International Women’s Day (IWD).
