His quick rise in the Fiji tourism industry speaks volume about his dedication and sacrifices.

Meet Solomoni Stark – a 28-year-old native of Nasoqo Village, Naviti in Yasawa, with maternal ties to Volivoli Village in Nadroga.

Solo’s academic journey began at Toko Bhartiya Primary School in Vatukoula, where the seeds of his future were sown, and flourished further at Tavua College, where his leadership potential and commitment to excellence began to bloom.

After graduating with a double major degree in tourism hotel management and human resource management from the University of the South Pacific in 2022, Solo embarked on his professional odyssey at Sofitel Fiji Resort in Nadi, assuming the role of Guest Service Agent – a role that would serve as the launchpad for his meteoric rise in the hospitality realm.

“When I was young, my mother always took me to church settings and this is what inspired me, to one day join the tourism industry,” he said.

With an unwavering dedication to exceeding expectations and cultivating meaningful guest experiences, he swiftly ascended the ranks, culminating in his elevation to the position of supervisor within a mere year and a half.

Displaying remarkable acumen and leadership prowess, his tenure as supervisor garnered him accolades and recognition, paving the way for his subsequent appointment as duty manager.

“When I joined Sofitel, I did not really imagine that two years down the line I’d be a duty manager given that I’m young and straight out of university.” Solo’s remarkable journey was punctuated by a significant milestone when he secured the prestigious silver medal in the ‘rising star’ category at the esteemed ANZ Excellence in Tourism Awards, solidifying his stature as a rising luminary within the industry.

“I was surprised when our management team nominated me for the award and then to take home silver, it really speaks of how far I have come in this short journey.”

Behind Solo’s achievements lies a wellspring of inspiration – his parents, whose unwavering support and embodiment of values, such as integrity and humility, have served as guiding beacons throughout his journey.

“My parents are my biggest inspiration because they were always pushing me to be better and as the eldest I had to prove to them that I could make it.”

For Solo, the true essence of his vocation lies in the connections forged with guests and the opportunity to craft indelible memories – an ethos that underscores his genuine passion for hospitality.

“The best thing about being in the tourism industry is the bonds that you create with the guests, leaving them with an impression that creates lifetime friendship.”

From his humble beginnings in Vatukoula to his current standing as a paragon of excellence in the tourism industry, Solo’s narrative epitomises the enduring potency of determination and the pursuit of greatness.

His advice to young people is simple yet profound: “If you’re passionate about something, go for it.”
