Elizabeth Pena died from complications caused by alcohol abuse.
The La Bamba actress passed away aged 55 in Los Angeles last week following a brief illness and it has now emerged she was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver “due to alcohol”.
According to website TMZ, Elizabeth had the disease for months but it became acute shortly before her death.
The site obtained a copy of the Modern Family star’s death certificate which said she had acute gastrointestinal bleeding hours before her death, which caused her heart to stop.
The American Dad actress’ manager had previously said she died of natural causes following a brief illness.
