THE Crest Fiji Pearls head coach, Michelle Parsons, believes the team’s performance at the Spirit Series in Sydney, Australia, recently is an encouraging sign of what the side can achieve despite having only a limited time to prepare together.
Parsons, who took charge of the national side last month, said the tournament has given the coaching staff a valuable opportunity to assess the team’s development while laying the foundation for future success.
She said the players had responded positively to the challenges of working under a new coaching set-up and shown a strong willingness to learn and improve with every match.
“We’ve only had a short time together, so I’m incredibly proud of the way the players have responded,” Parsons said.
“The performances we’ve seen show the commitment and willingness of this group to learn and grow.”
Parsons said the Spirit Series was never solely about the final result, but rather about building a competitive team capable of performing consistently on the international stage.
She said the tournament had allowed the coaching staff to develop combinations, understand how they played and lay the foundation for the future.
Parsons said every quarter of every match had provided valuable lessons for both the players and coaching staff, with each performance helping to identify areas of strength and those requiring further improvement.
“Every quarter has given us valuable lessons, and we’re creating a team that can consistently compete with the world’s best,” she said.
The team’s attitude in the tournament, she said, had been one of its biggest strengths, with players embracing the opportunity to develop despite the limited preparation time.
Parsons believes the experience gained at the Spirit Series will provide a strong platform for the Fiji Pearls as they continue developing themselves for future international campaigns.
