BUILDING depth and nurturing young talent will be central to Michelle Parsons’ plans for the Fiji national netball team.
The new Fiji Pearls head coach said her early observations during nationwide trials revealed an exciting wave of emerging players ready to step up.
“What I saw in the Western side netball trials was there’s a lot of youth coming through, and that’s exciting,” Parsons said.
More than 200 players attended recent trials in Sigatoka and Lautoka, highlighting strong interest and commitment across the country.
Parsons emphasised that developing players across all levels from secondary schools to elite squads would be key to long-term success.
“If you don’t build succession, then you haven’t got the depth,” she said.
She plans to introduce national development camps and strengthen pathways so players outside the main squad can still be groomed for future selection.
“There needs to be a tiered system. You might not play this year, but you could play next year.”
Parsons admitted that while Fiji has shown strength in the mid-court and defensive areas, she is keen to identify more options in the shooting positions.
