The newly-installed digital parking meters are expected to earn $100,000 annually for the Savusavu Town Council.

Commissioning the project in Savusavu Town, Housing and Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa said the meters would cater for 45 vehicles daily and manage traffic, providing easier access to the town’s businesses.

“This initiative will not disrupt business operations. On the contrary, it will facilitate accessibility, ensuring customer convenience while helping businesses flourish,” Mr Nalumisa said.

“The status quo of vehicles lining up in front of shops is no longer tenable and this change will undoubtedly boost commercial prospects.”

Mr Nalumisa also opened the new Naqere Youth Park and gave a 9-tonne compactor truck to the council.

“Regarding waste collection in extended boundaries, I reiterate that an annual grant of $60,000 continues to subsidise designated areas maintaining their cleanliness and environment friendliness,” he said.

“For the park, he told residents of Naqere that such a project was a testament to the vision and dedication of the council to cater to the growing demand of sporting activities.”
