Authorities should consider legalising ‘pari’ drivers if taxi and bus services cannot meet demand, says Labasa Chamber of Commerce president Vinesh Dayal.
Mr Dayal said there was a gap in public transport after 7pm in Labasa.
“This is essentially an issue of demand and supply,” he said.
“If people need transport but taxis and buses are not available, then there is a gap that must be addressed.”
He said night transport was essential for workers who finished late and needed safe transport home.
“If licensed operators cannot provide the service, authorities should consider issuing permits to ‘pari’ drivers.”
However, he stressed that safety must remain the priority
