Parents yesterday flocked to Gospel High School and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School in Suva to have their children receive the COVID-19 vaccine jabs.

Among them was Saula Volavola, who accompanied his 15-year-old daughter.

He said he was happy that his daughter could be protected from contracting the virus.

He said parents should start taking their children for vaccination since school would start soon.

“COVID-19 is not a joke and it has killed a lot of people, we, as parents, it is our responsibility to ensure our children are protected,” Mr Volavola said.

“We need to follow the advice from the WHO and Health Ministry.”

He urged parents to encourage their children to take the vaccine.

In a public advisory, the Health Ministry stated it would roll out vaccination programs in schools for children aged 15, 16 and 17 commencing September 20.

Josateki Muriwaqa of Nakorovou in Rewa also brought his 17-year-old son to be vaccinated.

He said he approved of his son’s vaccination because of his future.

“I am thinking of my son’s career, this is why I supported his decision to be vaccinated,” Mr Muriwaqa said.
