Vateria Liwaono left her Kubulau home in Bua at 2am to head to town to buy her three school children’s books and stationery.
Ms Liwaono received the back-to-school support of $200 on Monday evening and by 9am the next day she was in town.
“I went to Kubulau District School to apply for the assistance,” she said.
“I was surprised to receive the assistance on Monday because we were advised by the ministry that we would be getting the assistance on January 10.”
Ms Liwaono said she managed to buy all of her three children’s exercise books and stationery.
“We have financial problems, but we’re thankful for the back-to-school assistance handed out by the Government.”
Another mother, Fiona Bert, was also thankful to the Government for the timely assistance.
“We did not sweat to get this money,” she said, adding her husband was the only breadwinner.
“Sometimes we’re not able to get what our children want because of the little income my husband gets.”
Ms Bert said she wanted to post her thanks to the Government on Facebook.
