Pacific Fishing Company Pte Ltd (PAFCO) has announced the appointment of seven new board members.

The new board held its first official meeting in Suva on Thursday, with seven of the now nine total board members present to attend. Continuing board chairman Mahmood Khan said, “We’re very excited to have the skillsets that these members bring. It had been difficult to form committees and proceed with crucial work, but now we have the board members to allow this.”

The seven new board members appointed on Wednesday, are Lydia Lazel, Epeli Maisema, Mike Terry, Brij Lal, Maciu Lagibalavu, David Robertson and Carol Watkins.

Board chairman Mr Khan and deputy chairman Ratu Etonia Seru have been re-appointed. Speaking on behalf of the new members Ms Lazel said, “We are looking forward to working with the chair and with the current board and management.”

With a wealth of experience in the fisheries industry Mr Lagibalavu hopes to aid in the scarcity of supply the industry has faced over recent years.

“A crucial element of this company is the supply. So, I’m happy to come in and learn more about that in the hope that I can contribute to it, using my experience to address some of those issues relating to supply,” he said.

Chairman Mr Khan said, “The last couple of years have been exceptional for PAFCO. There’s been an epoch in terms of what we’ve achieved.”

The new board hopes to work towards producing above the current production levels by the end of 2023.
