Speaker of the Parliament Filimone Jitoko says the newly established Pacific Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (PIPA) will deepen regional integration and help in amplifying the voice of Pacific parliaments on the global stage.
Addressing Parliament yesterday, he said the establishment of PIPA was a historic milestone for the Pacific.
“The conclusion of the 5th Pacific Islands Parliament Group (PIPG) conference in Natadola on August 28, 2025, marked not only the closure of the PIPG chapter, but the opening of the new one with rejuvenation and new sense of purpose for our community of parliaments in the region,” Mr Jitoko said.
“I am confident that PIPA will serve as a beacon of cooperation, resilience and democratic governance for our region.”
He thanked the President, Prime Minister, ministers, the assistant ministers and members of the Opposition for their support throughout the conference.
“Their support has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”
