FIJI Swimming has announced its provisional squad to the 2019 Pacific Games on July 7 to 20 in Apia, Samoa.

Fiji Swimming general manager David Dugucanavanua said there were a total number of twenty-eight swimmers who will be part of intense training throughout the season leading up to the games.

“We are proud to announce our provisional team to the Pacific Games totaling twenty-eight swimmers. “The swimmers are a mixture of those from Suva and the West who will be competing in small events and also training towards the Pacific Games,” said Dugucanavanua.

He said the swimmers would train hard to meet the qualifying times for the Pacific Games before 2019 Easter weekend Fiji Games which will also be a trial swim for the team.

“The swimmers will be required to meet the qualifying times this season ahead with the last opportunity at the 2019 Easter Fiji Games,” said Dugucanavanua.

He added the hosted competitions the previous year had boosted the swimmers to do better and provided them with the exposure they needed.

“Fiji Swimming hosting and being part of a number of regional and international tournaments had definitely boosted our swimmers.

“Most were able to break their times in this tournaments and that is an achievement and will be helpful in moving forward into our preparation for this year,” said Dugucanavanua.
