Veteran coach Paula Coffa has been keeping his eyes locked on a Fijian lifter competing at the 17th Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

Coffa, who is the general secretary of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, has been following the progress of all Pacific lifters and was impressed with their growth.

He said there is one particular lifter from Fiji that he had been monitoring.

“Coach Henry Elder’s son (Daniel Shaw) is sensational at his age, he is very impressive and I wish I could just take him and train him with Eileen (Cikamatana),” Coffa shared.

“Contrary to the past we have a very good relationship now with Fiji so I know exactly what they’re doing and everything.

“Fiji’s young lifters will need some time to develop but I’m confident that those in the higher categories will surely win medals in the coming days.”

Shaw will be in action today at 11am in the men’s 81kg, while Keren Vulaca will compete in the women’s 71kg at 1.30pm.

The weightlifting competition is being held at the Maranatha Hall in Honiara.
