The Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors have started their title defence with a win beating Samoa A 29-5 during their World Rugby Pacific Challenge opener at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this evening.

The Warriors scored four unanswered tries through inside centre Filimoni Savou, blindside flanker Anasa Qaranivalu and a brace from captain and flyhalf Tuidraki Samusamuvodre.

Halfback Simione Kuruvoli added three successful conversions and a penalty.

Samoa scored the only points of the second half with a try to open wing Owen Niue.

Warriors skipper Samusamuvodre was happy with the win but said more work was needed before their next game against Tonga A.

“There were some mistakes we made and can’t afford in our next game, and we will definitely look to work on it,” he said.

The Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors will take on Tonga A next Wednesday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
