PAC: Get it together

PUBLIC Accounts Committee chairman Professor Biman Prasad has requested ministry permanent secretaries and officials to get their acts together and quickly implement recommendations made by the Auditor-General in his audit of State accounts for the past eight years.

Yesterday, the chairman expressed the committee’s frustration of government officials not coming to the meeting prepared.

“This is a message to all Government departments and permanent secretaries that we, the Public Accounts Committee expect the ministries, the senior officials to have looked at the reports already,” Prof Prasad said.

He said the permanent secretaries and officials should not be sitting in their offices waiting for someone to alert them of what was wrong.

“Whether its 2007, 2008 or 2009 reports, they (ministries) should be looking at putting in measures to improve.

“They (ministries) should not be waiting for us (PAC) to ask them what the update is,” Prof Prasad said.
