THE Fiji Pearls netball team has made a promising start to preparations for next month’s Spirit Series in Sydney, Australia.

Head coach Michelle Parsons said that the squad has responded positively to new systems and expectations introduced during camp.

“I have been impressed with the enthusiasm and coach-ability of the players,” Parsons said.

“I have shared a lot of information and planning with them, both written and in sessions, and they have been very responsive.”

The Spirit Series will provide an important opportunity for Fiji to assess its progress and measure its readiness in several key areas.

The series is also a critical step in the development of Fiji’s national players, providing valuable international exposure and an opportunity to represent the country on the world stage.

“Players want to play. When you are representing your country, the opportunity to wear the uniform, hear the national anthem and show your best is why you train so hard and make the commitment,” she said.

According to the coach, the tournament will help benchmark the team’s physical conditioning, consistency in tournament play, game understanding and on-court combinations.

“It provides performance context for the players to test their capabilities against unknown opponents and to be able to adapt quickly,” the coach said.

Training sessions have focused on strengthening unit connections, improving consistency in fundamental skills and helping players understand their roles within different structures.

The Spirit Series will be held from July 8-11.
