Ovalau holds off mainland foes

Ovalau began their Vanua Championship campaign on a winning note after edging Nasinu 20-19 in a closely fought round one clash at Buckhurst Park yesterday.

The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams battling hard for control and the result decided by the narrowest of margins.

Ovalau team manager Filipo Baleiyanuca praised his players for remaining composed under pressure and showing determination to secure the victory.

“It was a very close game, and both teams fought hard, but I’m proud that the boys were able to get the results by the end,” Baleiyanuca said.

The one-point victory gives Ovalau a positive start as they look ahead to the second round of the Vanua Championship.

Round one results: Bua 9-7 Macuata, Vatukoula 33-32 Yasawa, Northland 23-19 Ra, Northern Bulls cruised to a commanding 51-12 victory over Coastland, Namosi 29-17 win Serua.

Under-20: Ovalau 25-22 Nasinu, Macuata 13-8 Bua, Namosi 27-18 Serua, Coastland 8-7 Northern Bulls, Vatukoula won by default over Yasawa, Northland won by default against Ra.
