FIJI Bitter Marist 7s participants, the Covenant Brothers are hoping they can do more than play rugby and preach about their Christian beliefs at the tournament.
Team manager Jo Makasiale said they had fielded two teams at this year’s competition to ensure game time for their players who also participate in Suva Rugby Union club games.
“We refer to ourselves as the Covenant Brothers Ministry and not a rugby club because we would like to use our talents to express more about God. We try to share our principles of Christian belief to those who may not know it and emphasise that we can have all the strength in the world but it could amount to nothing without him,” he said.
The team, also the home club of Vodafone Fiji 7s skipper Osea Kolinisau, has fielded two teams at this year’s Marist 7s, one more than they normally do.
“All of the players share a passion for rugby and while we don’t necessarily compete regularly in 7s tournaments, the Marist 7s has always been the one we competed in yearly and we would like to use the tournament to display the talents that the players have and glorify God at the same time,” he said.
The Covenant Brothers Red is in pool 14 with Niuboto Brothers Uro Kadavu, Police White and Senibua. Covenant Brothers Blue is in Pool 15 with Wardens Green, Nasikawa Blues and Coastal Ratu Filise two.
The 2016 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s will be held at the ANZ Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
