Communications Fiji Limited (CFL) is aiming for a record turnout of 100,000 visitors at this year’s Fiji Showcase, which opens tomorrow at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

At a media conference in Suva yesterday, CFL general manager Charles Taylor said last year’s event drew 95,000 ticketed entries, and organisers were confident of surpassing that number.

“We’re aiming for more than 95,000 people this year,” Mr Taylor said.

“We believe it’s a much safer environment.

“That’s one of the things we strive to do every year, to make it a much safer environment for everyone who comes to the Showcase.”

Mr Taylor also responded to concerns about the impact the death of a woman who fell from a Ferris wheel at the last year’s event might have on crowd turn-out.

“We don’t think so,” he said.

“We have done a lot in that area of safety to make sure and double-checking all our safety procedures.”

The 2025 event will see two ambulances on standby, on-site medics, and trained first aiders, with all rides inspected and rechecked by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) officials.

Mr Taylor clarified the 95,000 figure recorded last year referred to ticketed entries, although some people may have re-entered using the same ticket across multiple days.
