The newly registered One Nation party has announced that former Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama has formally endorsed the party and pledged his support for its vision and principles ahead of the next General Election.
In a statement, One Nation President Tupou Draunidalo said a party delegation met with Bainimarama on Thursday, 2 July, to present the party’s constitution and seek his patronage and support.
The delegation included the party’s president, General Secretary Ravindran Kumaran, founding members and members of the Central Executive Committee.
Draunidalo said the meeting reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building “a united, inclusive and prosperous Fiji founded on integrity, equality, meritocracy and good governance.”
General Secretary Ravindran Kumaran outlined the party’s vision, objectives and guiding principles before Draunidalo formally presented the One Nation Constitution to Bainimarama.
According to the party, Bainimarama said he recognised similarities between the values contained in the One Nation Constitution and those he championed while serving as Prime Minister.
He also expressed support for the party’s commitment to national unity, equal citizenry, equal opportunities, good governance, accountability and putting Fiji and Fijians first.
Draunidalo welcomes this support.
“One Nation is honoured to announce that the former Prime Minister of Fiji, Mr Frank Voreqe Bainimarama, has decided to formally endorse and pledge his support for One Nation.”
She said the endorsement represented “an important milestone” for the party as it prepares to engage with voters across the country ahead of the next General Election.
One Nation said it remains committed to serving all Fijians regardless of ethnicity, religion, province, socio-economic status, gender or background.
The party said its mission is to build a stronger and more inclusive Fiji through integrity, the rule of law, sustainable economic growth, socio-economic stability, equal opportunities, an improved business and investment environment, and responsible economic management.
One Nation also thanked Bainimarama for his support and said it looks forward to working with him while continuing to engage communities throughout Fiji and develop practical solutions to the challenges facing ordinary citizens.
