FROM participating in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union Deans competition to making their debut in a major tournament, the Nasinu Secondary School Old Boys team demonstrated their skills in the final leg of the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 7s tournament.

In a remarkable performance, the team won over the Lami Cavaliers with a score of 14-0 in the Bowl quarter-final match held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Head coach Digitaki Leavaci explained that this group comprises the current school’s U18 Deans team, marking their entry into a significant tournament.

Leavaci adds that reaching the Bowl quarter-final in their first tournament was unexpected, highlighting the valuable lessons learned from participating in the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 competition.

“This is the fourth week the boys have been together after their final exams, it has been challenging four weeks for us, because most of the time the boys are still at School, when we start the training only a few on them turning up for training.

“Looking at the talent they have reaching the Deans quarter-final this year, we thought this would be a better platform for them to showcase the talent they have.”

The team aims to compete in the Fiji Bitter 7s series U20, with plans in place to maintain their competitiveness by implementing training programs.

“With this platform, we are hoping to go into the Fiji Bitter 7s series U20, in January we are putting programs to keep them competitive, this tournament is just we just want to come and see ourselves, against the prominent teams in the competition, given what I have seen they can do much better.”
