Some police officers serving in rural communities up the North are renting houses in villages.

Deputy North Police Commander SP Luke Cerenasiga said the rent for these houses range from $50 to $150 a month.

SP Cerenasiga said there were vacant houses in villages which the villagers had offered to the police.

“We have four in Tukavesi, an inspector and three single men,” SP Cerenasiga said.

“Two couples of the Natewa Police Post. They live in a village dwelling.”

SP Cerenasiga said four police officers were renting a village home in Tukavesi because the Fiji Police Force had inadequate housing in Tukavesi.

“We are paying rent, and we are working on a win-win situation,” he said.
