A police officer was allegedly assaulted while on duty in Lautoka last week and is currently admitted in hospital.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew said the officer was trying to apprehend a suspect.

“He had followed after the suspect into an isolated area and managed to grab him, but during the process the suspect managed to free himself and assaulted the police officer,” said Mr Chew.

“This officer is now admitted in hospital due to injuries sustained from the assault.

“We will not tolerate such incident and we will come down hard lawfully on individuals obstructing police officers whilst executing their duties.”
