The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) says it has not received the investigation file on two civilian suspects linked to alleged human and sex trafficking cases being investigated by police.

The confirmation was made on Friday, despite police indicating the matter had already been forwarded to the office for legal review.

“We have not received any files yet, either on police or civilian,” the ODPP said.

Earlier, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report was lodged by a victim at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Suva, alleging she was a victim of domestic trafficking in Labasa involving two civilian suspects. She said the case had been investigated and the file sent to the ODPP for review.

She also confirmed a separate report had been lodged at the Lautoka Police Station involving one of the same suspects, with alleged offences occurring in the Western Division.

Ms Naisoro said claims were also made against two police officers in the Western Division regarding their alleged engagement with victims through one of the suspects.

The officers are under investigation.

She added that the Human Trafficking Unit continues investigations and is working closely with the victims, with support from military personnel at the Black Rock facility in Nadi.

Police confirmed the victims are aged 18, 19 and 20.

The ODPP said no comment could be made at this stage as the file had been received.
