NEW Zealand 7s player Niko Jones looks up to his father and veteran player Sir Michael Jones as his motivator.

The son of an All Blacks great, Michael “Iceman” Jones, is committed to 7s after signing a contract with NZ 7s last year.

Being the youngest player in the team, Niko says it is a great blessing to be part of the team preparing for the Oceania 7s tournament today.

“Everyone has been taking care of me and I just enjoy being around them as I have been learning a lot from them,” he said.

“I am excited to play this weekend and for whatever it is just keep working hard, never give up and always be thankful for whatever that comes.”

Being a son of a former All Black open side flanker, Niko says his father always reminds him to work hard.

“His message to me is always try to be a good man, be faithful to your family and God and you will go a long way.”

Jones is one of five players who have been contracted to the All Blacks Sevens alongside.

He reminded young people to work hard, enjoy what they do, go out and play with all their hearts and honour their families.
