LABASA ratepayers have yet to receive their refund, as promised by the Labasa and Savusavu Town Council board.

The refund is a result of the review of the garbage fees.

The board’s chairperson, Justin Hunter, informed ratepayers through an advertisement that ratepayers who paid the increased fees announced earlier this year would be refunded following the review which has reduced the fees to $101.37.

Ratepayer and Delailabasa Tenants Association president Ambika Raj said a few of them had visited the council but were told to return for their refund.

“We are not told when to go back and collect the refund despite being informed by the council board that we could collect it,” he said.

“We would like to know what’s happening and when the ratepayers would receive the refund.”

Town administrator Doreen Robinson assured ratepayers that refunds would be made available once paperworks were completed.

“They will be refunded, that we assure,” she said.

“However, there are procedures involved and once completed, the ratepayers would certainly receive their refund.”
