FINANCE Minister Professor Biman Prasad has given his assurances that there will be no surprises or major changes to Fiji’s tax policies in the upcoming 2025-2026 National Budget.

“There will be no surprises. We are not changing and chopping our tax policies so I want to make this very clear that any changes that we make in the budget will be in relation to compliance,” he said.

“It will be in relation to policies that enhance participation, cooperation with the taxpayers, and our ability to work with businesses and the taxpaying community, so that we can close some of the loopholes that may, or might have existed in the past.”

Mr Prasad said if there are any changes, it will be within the existing tax system.

“That is something we haven’t decided yet but we will be making that decision in the coming week and deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica will be there when we make that decision.

“We are also looking at this budget that will anticipate any economic slowdown pressure on Fiji.

“We are hoping that the trade negotiations will lead to a trade reduction in tariff, and that the direct trade effect would be minimal in the short to medium term.”

The Government will deliver the 2025-2026 National Budget on June 27.
