The Standing Orders of Parliament is being amended to remove secret ballot voting for the election of the Prime Minister.

Under the current Standing Orders, members of Parliament vote secretly through a ballot, and nobody knows which MP voted for which nominee.

The Standing Orders Committee has proposed to remove secret ballot voting for the election of the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition and the President.

The amendments to the Standing Orders will be debated in Parliament on July 12 and will be adopted if passed by majority of MPs.
