Newly inducted prefects for The Learning Centre in Suva were reminded that they must carry out their duties as leaders with confidence, honesty and integrity to serve their school.
The 2024 prefect induction ceremony for the centre was held last week and invited as a chief guest was the Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Selina Kuruleca.
‘Today is a joyous and memorable occasion to all the young leaders who are going to be inducted,” she told the new prefects in a government statement.
“As we induct these young leaders, we entrust them with a sacred duty – to lead with integrity, compassion and determination.
“The school has confidence that you will fulfill your role as leaders of this institution with distinction.
“To become a great leader, you need to believe in the ethos and principles of your school yourself.
This means you will upload your school’s vision.
This will allow you to lead by example, to lead from the front and most importantly to lead from the heart.
“It enhances your leadership qualities and helps you become a stronger and a more responsible person.”
She said the prefects have been selected to be prefects because their teachers have seen leadership qualities in them.
She also stressed that the students must be obedient and respectful to their fellow peers who have been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining discipline and order within the school at all times.
