Newcomers Vulaga Cricket team from Lau had a memorable experience at their first ever tournament, the 2025 National Easter Cricket Tournament, held at Albert Park in Suva.

Despite facing tough competition, the team showed great determination and spirit.

Although they lost their first two matches to Cicia and defending champions Kabara, the team is grateful for the opportunity to play against experienced teams.

Head coach Jone Vusoniua commended the players for their efforts, especially considering that many of them were new to the sport.

“The boys really did well in the matches, playing for the first time is something big for us, we are just grateful for the exposer,” said Vusoniua.

Preparation was key for the team, as they trained hard leading up to the tournament.

“The boys really prepared for this competition, most of the boys this is their first time playing Cricket, so it been great so far.

“We didn’t get the win we wanted in our first two matches, we got few things to improve on especially our fielding so we will be working on it before we face Lakeba and other matches we have.

He adds one of the challenges the team faces is the lack of resources, including training equipment.

Despite these obstacles, they are making the most of what they have and are thankful for the support they have received from Cricket Fiji and their families.

The tournament concludes tomorrow.
