New talent shone for the Veuito Primary School under-14 team as they secured a remarkable victory against Dudley Intermediate School with a score of 8-5 in the Suva Kaji Rugby competition, which took place at the Saint Marcellin Primary School grounds on Saturday.

As the competition entered its fourth round, the team showcased their determination and skill, proving that they were ready for the knockout stages.

Lawrence Mataitoga, the coach of Veiuto Primary School, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, attributing their success to months of hard work and dedication.

“We began our preparations in term one, and the boys were exceptional during training. We have worked hard to build a strong team for this year’s competition,” said Mataitoga.

Despite facing tough opponents in their pool, the team remained focused on taking each game one step at a time.

“Our pool this year is a pool of death, we had a lot of tough teams in our pool, so we are just handling each game at time.

The victory over Dudley Intermediate School has provided a significant boost to the team’s hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Mataitoga commended the players for their confidence and determination in the do-or-die situation, emphasising the importance of not letting their hard work go to waste.

“The boys were confident coming into this match, they knew it was a do or die situation, and we can’t let down all our hard work from over the months to lose, so I’m proud of the boy’s performance.”

Mataitoga urged the players to maintain possession of the ball and capitalize on their opponent’s fatigue.

He acknowledged that there were areas that needed improvement before facing Draiba Primary School in the upcoming match.
