Retired police officers are part of the team solving unsolved cases, according to Acting Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga.

Mr Lutunauga said those officers formed part of a specialised Cold Cases Unit tasked with reopening and progressing investigations that had previously gone unsolved.

“Apart from them, we have experienced investigators who are experts in their respective fields,” he said.

During the early months of this year, he said, the unit’s main priority was to reach out to the families to provide them with updates and support.

He said now that this initial communication phase had been completed, the investigators are continuing with the detailed inquiries.

“We will provide further updates once significant progress has been made in these cases.”

He said they remain committed to solving the open files.
